Izzy joined a club at our church called Stage Team.  It’s a wonderful ministry for kids fourth grade and older.  They learn music and choreography to many worship songs, and then lead the younger classes in a worship service on the weekends.

Tonight was practice.  This is Izzy’s second week to attend.  After four weeks of coming to practice consistently she will be eligible for her official Stage Team shirt.

And there we have it, the great motivator for Izzy.

No matter how big or how small, if there is a tangible item to be earned, Izzy’s all in.

“Mom, I know I’ve only been on Stage Team for two weeks, but do you think there’s any way I’ll get my shirt tonight?”

“Um, probably not.  The director wants to know that you are committed and it hasn’t been four weeks.”

“Oh.  But I’m a Keane.”

She did not just say that.

It’s conversations like these that make me wonder where we have gone wrong.  Clearly a life lesson on humility and entitlement was missed at some point. Yikes!
