Passing the Baton
Last week, my 11 year-old daughter, Maddie, sent me an email with an attachment. The email stated that she had written her own devotional blog post–for pretend. I was curious and quickly opened it. What I found was not “pretend” at all, but very, very real. (I think the word she was looking for was “amateur.”)
The point is that her devotional was about two things that speak to her heart; worshiping her Heavenly Father, and dance. It was true, tender and heartfelt. I thought I would share it with you–unedited.
Worshiping God
Many people have been very inspired by dance, especially Lyrical. Lyrical is a type of dance that is very expressive to what a song is saying. People have been very intrigued by this type of dance. You might ask, why? Well…it’s kind of entertaining to watch all of the graceful movements that are so expressive to the song.
Psalm 143:9 Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to HIM with timbrel and harp.
I recently was in a Lyrical class, actually just last year, and it was awesome! My teacher was a Christian and every once in a while we would dance to a Christian song. Lyrical in my mind is an awesome way to worship God, just like that verse says. I’m not saying we should do Lyrical everyday to worship God. I’m saying it’s important to worship God each day. I know I don’t do that as often as I should, which is why I’m writing this. It’s easy to worship HIM everyday. It can be as simple as rocking out in the car to Way F.M.

Maddie, I appreciated your devotional on worship and lyrical dance. Your thoughts touched me especially because it is from your heart. I pray that you will always feel free to worship as God leads you. I love you, Grandma.
Maddie, you have a heart for God. May you always live to worship Him. I love how you can see that God is in the dance too.
Your openness to praise, worship, being in God’s Word is truly evident that your girls are aware that God is very real, that being in His presence and spending time with Him will bring new insight to the things of this world that God’s has given to express love to Him. While the world in general would take this gift of music and use it to exploit the evil in this world, Maddie has seen the beauty of this gift and experience His presence. What a beautiful beginning to following in her mom’s footsteps to share Christ.
